Money stories and the real heroes

After 20 odd years of helping clients with their portfolios, we have some great money stories…….

  • The single Mom who saved her retrenchment pay out and a few years later bought her own home.
  • The housekeeper, whose boss told her that all future increases would go to the Allan Gray Balanced Fund, and 15 year later retired to her own three bedroomed home in her hometown.
  • The Herschel girl who, after watching the Matric Dance parade aged 13, vowed to save for a pair of Jimmy Choe shoes for her Matric Dance. When she reached Matric, she took a look at the shoes, took a look at her portfolio, and borrowed shoes from her friend.
  • The young married couples who save for a deposit on their own home.

The list seems endless.

But the real heroes are the investors who contribute to their funds on a regular basis, take their tax advantages where they can and don’t withdraw funds unless they absolutely have too.

They know that the eighth wonder of the world is the power of the compounding of investment returns year after year and stay true to their investment plans. I am sure they find investing boring, but in investing, steady and boring is good.

These are the real heroes and the future great money stories.

Keep safe and warm.
